Learning to Swim

We signed up Colin for some swim lessons again this year at Fairwood Golf and Country Club. Fortunately you are not required to be a member to do lessons. At first we weren't sure which level he should be in. Age-wise it looked like he belonged in Level 5. Swimming is not Colin's strong suit, so by the end of the day, he found himself hanging out with the Level 3 group.

Colin was rather conscious about being older than the rest of his class, but soon was pleased with the fact that he was doing exceptionally well in this level. Not only did he gain confidence, he quickly improved his swimming ability. By the end of the session, his teacher said it was her goal to wear him out. Colin was pretty pumped about that.

The biggest disappointment came on the last Friday where the kids usually get to play, have fun, and jump off the big, green floating toy affectionately known as "the rock". That was not to be. Instead the instructors taught water safety. Invaluable to the parents, but a total drag for the kids. They had to sacrifice time on "the rock" because the session started late since the Renton school district got out of school a couple days later than everybody else. However, they did get some time to jump off the starting platforms in the deep end of the pool. That's always a good time.
