We were off to see the Mariners take on the Boston Red Sox at Safeco Field. (No, we weren't rooting for the Red Sox!) We decided that instead of paying the enormous prices to park near the ball field, we would rather take the Sounder train. We boarded the train at Kent Station. Unfortunately a lot of people had the same idea, so we had to stand. It wasn't too bad, however, since it didn't take long to get to the King Street station. After a short walk past Qwest field, we were in the gates about 45 minutes before the start of the game. Perfect timing!
It was gorgeous weather that Sunday. Sunny & warm, but not too hot. We sat very high up behind home plate. Colin & I both brought our DS's so we could message each other and watch the real time pitch count and view. The game itself was a good one. Everyone on the bandwagon had their Red Sox gear on, cheering for the opposing team. Very annoying! It was tied 2-2 for most of the game, up until the bottom of the 9th when the Mariners hit an RBI after two outs to win the game. It was awesome! The best part was to see all the people wearing red looking totally dejected. Serves them right! You cannot tell me all those people were from Boston. I bet 75% of them will put on their Seattle shirts starting tomorrow. No, I'm not bitter... I'm just from Seattle!
After savoring the exciting victory, we headed back to King Street to board the train home. This time we were lucky enough to get seats, even with a table. It was a nice relaxing trip home with no traffic. It reminded us of our travels in Europe and Japan where you could take a train to almost anywhere. Too bad the Seattle area doesn't have more light rail - I would use it all the time!
